New York Needs Some Revolution

January 29th, 2009

The city’s plan is to get food manufacturers in the United States to agree to gradually start reducing salt content until it reaches a 50 percent cut in 10 years.

“Salt, when its high in the diet, increases the blood pressure and high blood pressure is a major factor for heart disease and stroke,” said Dr. Sonia Angell of NYC’s Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Program.

This is just Mayor Bloomberg’s latest health initiative, following on the heels of a smoking ban, a ban on trans fats and forcing restaurants to post the calorie contents.

Story

Now we have the war on salt. That’s right, freaking salt. While his city is in a horrible financial crisis, Mayor Bloomberg and his nanny state cabal of do gooders, have nothing to worry about, more than salt in people’s food.

Here is the money quote.

Thomas Frieden, the city’s health commissioner, said he wants manufacturers and restaurants to join the war on salt voluntarily. If they don’t, the city could pass legislation making it the law.

There it is. We will make you do it if you don’t do so voluntarily. We can use the power of the state to beat you about the head of yet another issue we have no business being involved in.

Welcome to English socialism people. New York City is becoming the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, this illiberal democratic nightmare of governmental interference, is a simply a microcosm of what the Democrat controlled federal thugs have in store for us, if we let them do as they will.

Free men must realize that every bit of liberty we relinquish act as a pebble in the dam that is being constructed to separate us from our river of freedom. Slowly but surely, these people will dam up our river one pebble at a time, all in the name of protecting us from ourselves.

I, for one, don’t want their protection. They can keep it, and shove it were the sun doesn’t shine.
