Concealed Handgun License

November 4th, 2009

Finally got the class out of the way several weeks ago. I need to send in my paperwork and find a holster for my Kimber. I am thinking inside the waistband. It will be nice to finally be able to legally carry protection for my family.

English Rip Babes From Grandparents Arms, and Give Them to Gays

February 5th, 2009

The devastated grandparents were told they would never see the youngsters again unless they dropped their opposition.
The couple, who cannot be named, wanted to give the five-year-old boy and his four-year-old sister a loving home themselves. But they were ruled to be too old - at 46 and 59.
For two years they fought for their rights to care for the children, whose 26-year- old mother is a recovering heroin addict.
They agreed to an adoption only after they faced being financially crippled by legal bills.
The final blow came when they were told the children were going to a gay household, even though several heterosexual couples wanted them.
When the grandfather protested, he was told: ‘You can either accept it, and there’s a chance you’ll see the children twice a year, or you can take that stance and never see them again.’

Story RTWT.

So the social workers take two grandchildren away from their grandparents because they say the grandparents are too old to raise them. The couple in question are 46 and 59 I believe. It is not like they are 95 and on the verge of death.

After two years of legal battle the grandparents, now broke, give up the fight. They just want to make sure that the kids will go to a loving family at this point. That is when they are told that the family is two gay men! The gays were chosen even though several qualified normal families where available.

Social activism, being played out with children, and it is despicable. England has gone completely, batshit, crazy. God save us from the Eurosocialists.

If something like this happened here, there is a good chance that the grandfather might show up to the foster home, armed, to save his grandbabies. Then the family, having to be on the run from the government, could survive hopefully. In jolly ‘ol England, unarmed peasants have no such options, to fight totalitarian leftism run amok, and must bow down, and ask for another helping.

This is why we must fight to the death if necessary, to keep from becoming unarmed peasants ourselves.

Here We Go

January 26th, 2009

The opening salvo has been shot.

The mayor is wrong however. This is about the right to keep and bear arms, and nothing else.

Cold dead hands and all.

The Legendary Browning Automatic 5

January 19th, 2009

If you have never handled and shot a Browning Auto-5 or a Remington Model 11 shotgun, make it a priority to do so. They are absolutely fabulous autoloading guns, invented by none other than Saint John Moses Browning, in 1898. FN made the A5 for much of it’s production history that lasted for nearly one hundred years, before being discontinued in 1998.

The distinctive design is instantly recognizable, and while there are many newer and more technically advanced designs, the old A5 is tough to beat. It operates in a somewhat unique manner. The barrel and bolt both are repelled by the recoil of the fired shell, and in turn cock the hammer, and load the next round. More modern autoloading shotguns either rely on only the bolt being cycled by recoil, or are gas operated.

The shape of the A5, as I said is very unique. It is lovingly called “The Humpback” by it’s owners, because of its interesting asthetics. The forearm is a bit skinny compared to lots of other shotguns, which evokes an old world feel, similar to holding an old Winchester lever action. Personally, no other autoloader points as naturally as an Auto-5. The thinner forearm is perfectly sized for me. The only example I have fired, was a Daiwa copy that my uncle has. Shooting his gun, made me instantly fall in love with the design.

John Browning’s gun was also produced in the United States for some time as the Remington Model 11. The early Model 11s had a straight grip stock, similar to Winchester’s early lever actions. Later they were made with a more conventional curved pistol grip stock.

Throughout the years of production, the A5 was manufactured in large numbers in Belgium, the United States (as the Remington 11), and later in Japan. There are several different model choices including the Light 12, Magnum 12, a 16 guage variant, and 20 guage configurations.

Not having an Auto-5 in my collection, presents quite a large hole. A hole that hopefully will be filled in the next year or two with a nice Light 12, or perhaps a 16. After looking at many different autoloading shotguns including $1,000+ examples from Benelli and Berretta, my first auto shotgun is going to be an Auto-5 for sure.

Update: This would work!

Ah Jeez

January 4th, 2009

So, Dad proudly told me that he got Mom a pistol to carry in her car, until she can get her CHL, at a future date.

Sounds like good news right? Well it is to a certain point, but it goes downhill from here. The first question I ask of course is what did you get her? He responds, “I got her a .380, it isn’t a Smith and Wesson or anything.” At this point my oh crap sensors are starting to buzz. After prodding him for the brand he remembers, “It is a Bryco semi-auto. I got it for $200 at a gun show probably six months ago.” Oh crap moment fully realized.

So then I ask if he or Mom have shot it yet, and of course they haven’t. She hasn’t shot a gun in thirty years, but does know the basic principal of doing so. So that is a bit of a plus I guess.

The fact that she hasn’t shot any gun, much less than one in question in decades is not much of a plus. It is only slightly better than handing an unknown quantity handgun, to a woman that has never shot any gun before. We are talking about a notoriously bad firearm, being relied on as a defensive weapon, by a small woman, that has not been fired. The damn thing may not even fire at all, or it might jam after the first shot.

While not trying to alarm my Dad, or insult him, I did say that he needs to take her out to shoot it as soon as he can. Hopefully it turns out to be a decent firearm. Certainly if she can shoot it, and it functions, it will be better than nothing. If it a jam-o-matic turd, then he will know it is not right for her. Right now though, it is almost worse than nothing. It represents false security. Hopefully she never needs it, but what if she does?

A New Year Brings New Priorities

January 4th, 2009

The holiday season is now over, and with its passing a new year has begun. My two week vacation is coming to an end, and work is waiting for me in the morning. This new year brings with it many uncertainties that have been consciously ignored for the last couple of months. The economy is in the dumper, employment is not guaranteed, and we have a likely foe to freedom preparing to take over the governing of our country.

We have settled into our new role as parents, and that has changed the reality of my priorities as the head of my household. I have a wife and baby to support beyond just supporting myself. Thankfully, the wife and I have good jobs at the moment. Our companies look to be stable, and hopefully nothing will change on that front. Preparations need to be made for a change in this department in the uncertain times however. My family must be protected in the event of prolonged unemployment.

We are fortunate to be able to survive on either of our incomes. Things would be tight, but doable. Up until this point I looked at my 401k as a backup plan. It still is, only its backup potential has been lessened significantly with the market downturn. We could have survived solely on it for a year or more before, and as of now we are looking at six months or so.

While many have been forecasting a depression like the one the country experienced during the 30s or worse, I don’t see it happening. My feelings are that we are in the midst of a deep recession and will come out of it in the second half of this year. Not being an economic guru makes my elementary forecasts nearly worthless. Therefore my plan for this year is to live frugally, and stock away as much cash as possible.

We don’t have any car payments, or massive amounts of debt, so socking away money won’t be to difficult. At least it shouldn’t be. Our biggest problem is frivolous spending. Between going out to eat, and randomly buying crap, we easily could put away $500 a month if not more.

One aspect of becoming more secure financially involves smart shopping for groceries. We have used the grocery game off and on for a few years now. This has multiple advantages really. First, you get groceries as cheaply as possible. Second, you end up stockpiling quite a bit of food. You can easily eat off of it for weeks or longer if need be.

We have enough guns for now, and if anything is banned, we have what we need for the future. There are of course dozens of firearms that would be great additions to my collection, but none will likely be added this year. A few more “assault rifles” would be very welcome, but they will likely have to wait. If there is a ban, our current lineup will be sufficient. Finishing out my extra AR will be the only probable gun purchase this year.

Ammo is another story. Part of my preparations for familial survival will include finally setting up my reloading bench, and creating loads of cheap ammo for us to practice with. There is enough ammo for each gun now to make it useful in a TEOTWAWKI event, but we all need to practice and become proficient with all of our family arms.

One expense we have decided to add this year will be getting our concealed carry licenses. With the withering economy crime is on the rise. There has been an uptick in carjackings and muggings, and several women have been followed home and robbed in our area. Security is another huge priority that will be addressed in this new year.

Our home has iron grates on the operable windows in the house. The front door has an iron security door. The gates to the backyard are locked as well. We need to add an alarm system, and some strategically placed security lighting.

If possible, I would like to find some affordable cameras that can be monitored remotely. This would be useful for monitoring the front door and maybe a couple of other key locations. It would be nice to be able to see who was at the door before opening it.

All of these security ideas have been thought of in the past, but there has always been a different priority at the time.

I am responsible for protecting my wife and my child, and with a world that is becoming less safe every day, my vigilance in this area must be upgraded. My wife must be able to defend herself and our child while they are out on their own, and so the concealed carry licenses will be our first security priority.

It May Already be to Late to Turn Back the Tide

November 14th, 2008

Please, watch this video. It is from a former KGB agent Yuri Bezmenov, and was recorded back in the ’80s. He is warning us about how the Marxist-Leninists (the Soviets at the time), planned to infiltrate and takeover our country.

HT: Pat Dollard

Fortunately for our country, Ronald Reagan and others helped defeat the Soviets and they failed to take over while they were still in power. Unfortunately, their useful idiots were left intact. These are the Hollywood morons, the professors in our schools, government bureaucrats, much of our media, and others.

The Marxist-Leninist plan has finally succeeded in getting one of themselves, Barack Obama, into the highest office in the land. They used the idiots in our society, the lazy sheep looking for government handouts and those that pay no attention to anything, to elect him.

The Soviets worked on these things for decades. Senator McCarthy, while being branded as a kook, turned out to be correct. Our Department of State was chock full of Marxists. This was sixty years ago! Since the 60s these people have gained power across our country and have taken over our institutions.

We have seen the writing on the wall. We are headed for socialism-lite in this country at a rapid pace. The three-headed mongrel dog of Obama, Pelosi, and Reid, is chomping at the bit to get moving on their fundamental change. They plan to lead us into western European socialism as fast as they can.

Meanwhile the real dangerous communists are up to their old tricks. They have succeeded in their old plot to consolidate power in America around the soft American left. They have Obama to deal with. He is a weak leader, and has already proven to be soft on Russian aggression. There is more to Obama than this however, as we will look at shortly.

Seeing these developments, the communists of the world are acting. They are acting right now. Lets look at a couple of current headlines shall we.

  • Russian leader Medvedev heading to Cuba, Venezuela
Here we have the Russian President heading to Cuba and Venezuela. These are of course the two strongholds of Marxist-Leninist socialists in our hemisphere currently. The Russians are supplying weapons to Chavez, conducting military games with him, and moving to start oil field work there. The Russians are expanding their oil production capabilities in our hemisphere, while we sit around and worry about global warming. This will leave us defenseless in the event of a crisis, in which our foreign oil supplies are cut off. Game over.
  • U.S. critical of Russia’s Baltic missile threats
So Reagan did teach the Soviet’s something about negotiating after all! What a shrewd move on the part of the Russians. Obama is going to fold like a house of cards on this one, and it WILL be only the beginning of the games. The Russians will continue to test him, and take full advantage of him as long as they can. They have judged him well I think. Hopefully they are wrong, and he will step up to defend our country and our allies from this resurgent monster. This would assume that he is in fact, not on their side.
  • China’s Hu to visit Washington, Cuba
This one actually scares me. China and Russia have been enemies for centuries. Even though they were ideological allies for decades, they had generally rocky relations during the time of the Soviet Union. A coming together of these two, along with their western hemisphere comrades, could prove disastrous for us. This is the reason we fought communism for all those years. This is why we helped overthrow people like Allende, and fought the Sandanistas. We knew that communist expansion would be the end for us. That is why we spent so long fighting it. Now we are going to be run by sympathetic morons, just at the time we need to fight the most.
  • Move To Let Putin Re-Take Power”>Move To Let Putin Re-Take Power
Vladimir Putin continues to consolidate his power. He is an old school communist, and former head of the KGB. This is why McCain kept saying that he saw him as such, during the debates. Unfortunately that didn’t mean anything to 52% of us. We were to interested in hope and change. Guess what? Change is coming, with it you may lose all hope.

Worried yet? You probably should be.

This brings us to the very interesting point of our discussion. Where does the American Left and their Messiah Barack Obama stand in all of this. Are they the well-meaning idiots of Jonah Goldberg, or Soviet-style totalitarian communists in disguise.

At this point I do not know the answer. There is also the question of whether or not it really matters. Good intentions don’t make up for losing one’s freedom or life after all. It would be nice to think that 52% of our populace could never be duped into voting for such a regime, but my hope in the American people was severely dashed when the picked Obama at all.

The circumstantial evidence pointing to Obama at least leaning towards authoritarian control is everywhere. His relationships with the Ayers, his membership of a black liberation church (liberation theology is rooted in Marxism), his shady dealings and election tactics in Illinois, and his polished message all point towards bad things for us conservative, patriotic, gun-toting Americans.

The most shocking revelation to me was his plan for a Civilian Defense Force. I have mentioned that here before. Just the thought of such a thing brings of visions of Hitler’s Brown-shirts, or Stalin’s old NKVD thugs. Couple this with Obama’s propensity for gun control, and you have a witch’s brew of bad intentions.

Our good friend Dirtcrsher brought the following video to our attention here. Please go see his post and read the comments if you have not already.

This scares me more than anything else that has been mentioned thus far. They seem to be aiming to turn our children into indoctrinated pawns for the state. What will they do next, have them spy on us, and report any negative comments we make against the anointed one? We will discuss this little plan in more detail here in a separate post later.

It is time to prepare.

Magazine Storage

November 14th, 2008

After receiving my 20 C-Products magazines, I ordered some Federal XM193 last week. Natchez Shooters Supply sent me 500 rounds for about $215 shipped to my door. This weekend I plan to load up all of those magazines and figure out a way to store them.

This brings me to the point of the post. I need a bag that would hold 15-20 loaded magazines. Preferably something made specifically for the job. It would be nice if it had a shoulder strap and a zippered top, so it could be carried easily. Any suggestions?

The mags will be loaded with 28 rounds a piece, and for now they will be stored in the closed cardboard box they came in. This is our family’s primary SHTF gun, so I really want to get the mags situated in a easily transportable storage solution as soon as possible.

Update:

Well, I did find this.

8 MagShoulder Bag

It is an 8 mag bag apparently. A couple of these with the shoulder straps tied together might be ok.

Guns and Ammo Selling Out Across the Country

November 6th, 2008

Obama’s election, and his promise to reinstate the assault weapons ban have people panicking a bit. According to this article, stores and distributors are starting to get low on their stock of semi-auto sport guns, magazines, and ammo. Any weapon that is semi-auto and has a capacity greater than 10 rounds is very popular right now, and is a potential victim to be banned.

Gun bloggers are not exempt from the buying frenzy by any means. Uncle let’s us know about Jay G’s potential black rifle purchase. There are dozens of posts on blogs and forums asking, “What should I buy before Obambi takes away our rights?!”. All these people are correct to buy what they want now. There is no telling when the ban will be reinstated, what it will contain, and there likely will not be a sunset provision this time.

The arguments against such a ban are for another post, or series of posts, but it is sufficient to sum the topic up with, “They don’t work.” This is a proven fact. I have been contemplating this for several months now. About a month or so ago an order was placed for twenty AR magazines. Today, I ordered half a case of ammo from Natchez.

We have discussed this in the past, and the wife agrees that we will need to make some more purchases before the end of the year. An AK variant of some type is on the list, along with mags and ammo for it.

The five hundred rounds of 5.56 that will be arriving are enough. Components to load several thousand more rounds will be purchased after the new year.

Hopefully we are all wrong about this, but it is better to prepare now, than to wish you had later.

Interesting

October 31st, 2008

While I think GOA is a bit crazy, I like the way this guy thinks! I may just have to write him in, seeing as I have the luxury of living in a totally Red state. Time for some more research.

Edit: Meh, he seems to be a gold standard, north american union, new world order, nutter type. That’s a shame.
