From Drudge we get this bit of complete misunderstanding of concepts.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi boldly defended a move to add birth control funding to the new economic “stimulus” package, claiming “contraception will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.”
Pelosi, the mother of 5 children and 6 grandchildren, who once said, “Nothing in my life will ever, ever compare to being a mom,” seemed to imply babies are somehow a burden on the treasury.
The revelation came during an exchange Sunday morning on ABC’s THIS WEEK.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus?
PELOSI: Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those - one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.
STEPHANOPOULOS: So no apologies for that?
PELOSI: No apologies. No. we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy.
Wow, just wow. This is almost unbelievable. It is very illustrative of two facts though. Democrats don’t understand the difference between the private economy of the nation, and the public government. They also don’t understand that the taxpayer’s money does not belong to the government.
This is an incredibly stupid idea. We are going to spend $100 million on rubbers. Of course this idea is central to leftists. They can’t wait to hand you a condom for some reason. How this is going to “save” money is beyond me. I guess less babies equals less welfare, and other entitlement programs? This has to be the logic our vapid Speaker of the House is using to justify spending that kind of money on rubbers.
That probably is not even true. For some reason these people take delight in people having unwed sex randomly with strangers. They encourage it every time they can, and now they are going to use federal tax dollars to do it. It is almost like some kind of legislated immorality.
This bill is supposed to be about stimulating economic growth. Let’s set aside the fact that pumping money into the economy, and taking on another trillion dollars of debt, is not how an economy gets a jump start. It is a recipe for super inflation.
This item is not economic stimulus at all however. Handing out free condoms does not create jobs, or get people to spend money. It simply becomes another bloated government program that serves little purpose, but sucks up plenty of resources.
The states budgets should not be a concern of the federal government, and they surely should not make a bit of difference, when you are trying to stimulate the economy. This Democrat idea of population control being fiscally smart, is asinine on its own. Actually claiming that it will help the economy somehow is just plain stupid.
She doesn’t even mention stimulating economic growth in her answers. The reason for this is simple. This bill has nothing to do with stimulating the economy. It is simply a trillion dollar list of liberal pet projects. It is set to be the largest instance of government largesse and corruption in our nation’s history.
Pelosi is an evil lunatic. Her devious fake smile is alarming when you see it. This woman has no business running a fruit stand, much less our great nation.
Update: Well, after doing a little more research this is worse than it seems.
This is a good start from the Heritage Foundation. RTWT!
Some lowlights:
Contrary to current law, the income of parents or even a spouse may not be counted in determining eligibility. A state would have the option to “consider only the income of the applicant or recipient.” In other words, a child in a family at any income level may be eligible for free family planning services.
So, this is a massive expansion of government, as I had suspected. Now just about anyone can receive family planning service (read contraceptives and probably abortions) on the federal government’s dime.
A child would be able to receive benefits through a “presumptive eligibility period” and beyond without parental knowledge that he or she applied for Medicaid.
End run for parental notification for abortions?
Typically, Medicaid eligibility is restricted to individuals in a family with a dependent child. Section 5004 creates a new eligibility group that would include college students, adults without children, and even adults in a household that has significant income but little or no income for the applicant. Moreover, applicants would not have to prove their citizenship before their “presumptive eligibility” is determined.
Illegals can get in on this too!
The Obama Administration will interpret whether the payment language (”[n]otwithstanding any other provision of law”) may be used as a backdoor means of overturning Hyde Amendment restrictions on federal funding of abortions.
There it is! I knew this was the reason behind this entire thing. This means Eric Holder, the leftie new Attorney General, will be able to decide whether abortions will be part of this or not. Survey says, “Yes”.
So soon we will be stimulating the economy by more taxpayer funded baby slaughtering.
It always comes down to killing children with these people for some reason.
Update 2:Greg Pollowitz put up more of the conversation here
PELOSI: No apologies. No. we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy. Food stamps, unemployment insurance, some of the initiatives you just mentioned. What the economists have told us from right to left: There is more bang for the buck, a term they use, by investing in food stamps and in unemployment insurance than in any tax cut.
Nonetheless, we are committed to the tax cuts because they do have a positive impact on the economy, even though not as big as the investments.
Seriously? She really made that claim.
“Economists” say that giving away abortions, and racking up the national debt to do so, is better than just giving the people that money back, and letting them spend it on whatever they want, without any more debt.
This may just be the most completely asinine thing that I have ever heard.
It also illustrates again how Democrats view taxpayer’s money. When she says invest, she is talking about blowing taxpayer’s money. When she says spend, she is talking about letting us keep it for ourselves. You see, she doesn’t understand that letting people have their money, instead of using the government to steal it, does not equal government spending. She sees tax cuts as government spending. This is one of the biggest problems with big government types. They often will say things like, “This is a giveaway to the rich!”, when in fact it is the “rich” keeping more of the money they actually earned. When they are actually spending the “rich” people’s money, it is called investing, even though it never actually comes back to the investor, and is lost entirely down the sinkhole of entitlement.
All of the new President’s executive orders will be published here.
One of the first he will likely create will rescind President Bush’s order which made it illegal for federal aid money to be given to foreign abortion operations. President Obama wants to make sure that all of us taxpayers get to spend some of our hard-earned cash on murdering foreign babies.
It isn’t enough to fund abortion, which many of us are totally against, here in States. We need to export this culture of death and destruction to all foreign lands, so every citizen get’s to have a hand in the fun of infanticide.
The moral depravity of such abortion lovers as Obama, is something that I will never understand. It is not enough for the procedure simply to be legal. They just have to do everything they can to make certain, that everyone that could possibly want to kill their child, has the opportunity to do so. We have welfare abortions in this country, and I am sick of being forced to contribute to a practice that goes against everything I stand for.
There is something that must be mentioned here, as it has not been before. This is probably the most divisive issue there is, and not much else can turn people into raging lunatics faster than a discussion of the topic. The topic of this post is abortion, and why my wife and myself are against it. This may put me in the fundamentalist nut camp, that so many deride now, if so, so be it. If opposing gay marriage, and abortion puts me in the fundie camp, that is fine. While I understand the libertarian-leaning person’s position on this, I reject it completely.
The issue has never been brought up on my blog here, and was mentioned briefly at my old one a couple of times. First, let’s look at my motivation for being pro life, or anti-abortion if you will. My primary motivation is my belief that life begins at conception. This comes from my religion, like many people. My holy book tells me that God knew me while I was in my mother’s womb. This is enough reason for me to oppose the barbarity of abortion. It is not my only reason by any means however.
Children are a miracle. They are totally innocent creatures when they are born. This is not a reference to whether or not I believe in original sin. That can be left for a different discussion. My point here is that they can not make decisions for themselves, or know the difference between right and wrong. Babies can not defend themselves. They rely on their parent(s) or other caretakers to do everything for them. This is the way they are designed. Their weak state prevents them from arguing for or against their birth. They have no choice in the matter.
The innocent and defenseless have always been defended by good, free, men. It is our duty to protect those that can not protect themselves. Part of that duty is to fight for the rights of the unborn. Those that are pro-abortion claim that it is a women’s right to choose. No one has the right to choose to murder someone else. You can’t take your kids into the backyard and slaughter them simply because you want to and feel you have a right to do so. Likewise, the millions of unborn babies that are slaughtered in this nation’s abortion clinics, should not be allowed to die at the whims of another human being.
I realize fully that this position may alienate some, and I apologize for your being offended if that is the case. It is not my intent to hurt anyone’s feelings, or to irritate my few appreciated readers. There will however never be an apology for my feelings on this matter. Roe v. Wade should be overturned, and abortion should be outlawed in all fifty states. An obvious exception to this would be to allow it, if the mother’s life is at risk. Please notice that I did not say the mothers health. The pro-abortion crowd likes to parrot about the mother’s health as a reason to allow anything. Pregnancy is a health risk. The partial birth abortion ban, would have been worthless, had a health clause been included. Protection for the mother’s life was included. This is an important distinction that is often distorted. The multitude of procedures that are performed in abortion clinics incur huge health risks to the women these butchers perform them on.
My libertarian friends will argue that this position represents undo force, to be enforced by the government, on the citizenry. I agree with this argument on many subjects. Abortion is not among them. Aborting a pregnancy is no different than murdering a child to me, so clearly government regulation is warranted. The government deems murder to be illegal, and I have not found a libertarian yet that thinks that it should be otherwise.
At an earlier point in my life, I claimed to be “pro choice”. My view on the subject was similar to Barack Obama’s. Unwanted children were viewed as a punishment to people that didn’t want them. This view changed with maturity like a lot of my political views.
Raising a baby girl has cemented my opposition. I look into her eyes every day, and see the awe-inspiring wonder of the universe. This is life. This is what it is all about. My soul connects with this child, and the thought that her mother could have chosen to kill her haunts me. Every one of these wonderful children deserve to be given a fighting chance. The thought that my precious little angel could have been murdered by someone purporting to be a doctor is horrifying. I love this little girl more than anyone next to my wife. She isn’t mine, but she may as well be. This little bundle of joy has taught me what it means to be responsible for another human beings every needs. She humbles me on a daily basis, and I thank God for her every day.
There are those that see abortion as worthy population control. They argue that unwanted children will become a weightsome burden on society. If one dismisses the fact that there are thousands and thousands of couples waiting to adopt newborn children, then this theory might make sense in a very macabre, and disturbing way. This line of thought illustrates a depraved indifference to human rights. Civilized societies don’t kill people simply because we don’t want them around. We don’t slaughter the mentally ill, or lock up handicapped folks and allow them to starve to death.
Having stated my opinion on this matter, there will be occasional posts involving the fight for the rights of the unborn. This is not going to become an abortion blog by any means, but I felt it best to issue a warning to any who read this blog. You are more than welcome to post your views on this issue, as long as you do so in an appropriate manner.
If you are a pro choice person, please consider re-evaluating your position on this matter. Our nation is missing millions of people that could have been many of our best and brightest. We will never recover them. This American Holocaust needs to end.
