Obama’s election, and his promise to reinstate the assault weapons ban have people panicking a bit. According to this article, stores and distributors are starting to get low on their stock of semi-auto sport guns, magazines, and ammo. Any weapon that is semi-auto and has a capacity greater than 10 rounds is very popular right now, and is a potential victim to be banned.
Gun bloggers are not exempt from the buying frenzy by any means. Uncle let’s us know about Jay G’s potential black rifle purchase. There are dozens of posts on blogs and forums asking, “What should I buy before Obambi takes away our rights?!”. All these people are correct to buy what they want now. There is no telling when the ban will be reinstated, what it will contain, and there likely will not be a sunset provision this time.
The arguments against such a ban are for another post, or series of posts, but it is sufficient to sum the topic up with, “They don’t work.” This is a proven fact. I have been contemplating this for several months now. About a month or so ago an order was placed for twenty AR magazines. Today, I ordered half a case of ammo from Natchez.
We have discussed this in the past, and the wife agrees that we will need to make some more purchases before the end of the year. An AK variant of some type is on the list, along with mags and ammo for it.
The five hundred rounds of 5.56 that will be arriving are enough. Components to load several thousand more rounds will be purchased after the new year.
Hopefully we are all wrong about this, but it is better to prepare now, than to wish you had later.

John McCain surprised me last night. It was certainly his best debate so far, but I am very afraid it may have come to late. All hope is not lost however, this election will probably be a squeaker for whoever wins it.
McCain once again missed several opportunities to counter punch Obama, but he did get some good punches in. The problem has been McCain explaining things well enough. He doesn’t realize that most people don’t have a clue what he is talking about. Sure we political junkies do, but average Americans don’t.
His attacks on Obama will be fruitful I think though. The polls should tighten up a bit now. We will just have to see what the American people decide come November 4th. My fear is that they will pick Senator Obama. The troika of Socialists that will be formed in Washington would be disastrous, but it may ensure a Republican takeover of Congress in 2010.
As a gunnie my biggest fear is a renewal and/or expansion of the assault weapons ban of course. My family is doing what it can to prepare for that. If Obama wins, it is almost certain that it will be passed. He will have the votes for that most likely. If you don’t have an AR or an AK, buy one, and buy all the mags and spare parts you can for it.
We all just have to do our part, and vote for McCain, and hope for the best at this point.

This is my first Guns That I Own post. I can’t think of a better subject than my first (for now only) black rifle. I LOVE this gun. I have put about 1,000 rounds through it so far, and have not had a single hiccup. She just throws ammo downrange in a quick and accurate manner.
The heavy barrel on this gun works great. I like the additional heft. It is easier for me to aim accurately than a lighter gun.

Specs:
A rugged, telescoping buttstock adds to the versatility of this .223 Remington caliber carbine, and the ribbed handguards keep swing weight to a minimum. Its handguards, pistol grip and “tele” stock are molded of hard thermoset polymer composite. The heavy barrel, with chrome lined bore and chamber, offers exceptional accuracy for its length and is externally manganese phosphate finished for complete protection against corrosion and rust - as are all steel parts of the weapon.
The barrel incorporates a “birdcage” style flash suppressor/compensator with closed bottom to eliminate dust signature when firing in the prone position. The M16A2 sight system, with two flip-up apertures designed for either short range shots at moving targets or long distance accuracy, offers adjustment for windage and elevation. The elevation adjustments are graduated from 300 to 800 meters and automatically compensate for bullet drop. Forged, lightweight 7075T6 aircraft quality aluminum receivers have all M16A2 design improvements including cartridge case deflector, last round bolt hold-open and raised ridges for magazine release button protection.
The A3 Type differs in that it’s Upper Receiver is “flat-top” style with an integral Picatinny rail to offer a variety of sight, scope or night vision mounting options. A 1/2 M.o.A. rear sight is incorporated into the Removable Carrying Handle. The carbine is shipped complete with 30 round magazine, instructional manual and carrying sling, all in a hard plastic shipping case..
